The
concept of an arts festival
for Rotorua was first mooted
in 1999 and from an initial
paper prepared for discussion
by the arts committee, The Rotorua
Energy Charitable Trust agreed
to commit significant funding
for a Festival of Arts to be
staged in the summer of 2001.
The decision was also made to
form a new trust, established
to deliver this and other ‘events’
in which the Rotorua Energy
Charitable Trust has a significant
interest.
The
Arts Rotorua Charitable Trust
was incorporated under
the Charitable Trusts Act 1957
on the 24th May 2002 and has
the responsibility to deliver
the Festival. Chairman of the
Trustees’ is Grahame Hall
and founding members include
Trevor Maxwell, Johnny Lepper
and Jo Anne La Grouw. Stuart
Burns, Secretary/Manager of
the Rotorua Energy Charitable
Trust was appointed Treasurer
and Monty Morrison of CMM Management
Ltd was appointed Festival Director
and Secretary. Following the
death of Johnny Lepper Rotorua
Energy Charitable Trust Trustee
Lyall Thurston was appointed
as a replacement. In 2004 Lyall
Thurston was not replaced and
new Energy Trust Trustee Jo
Ann La Grouw was appointed.
In 2006 The Mayor of Rotorua
is represented on the Trust
by Janet Wepa.
The
Rotorua Festival of Arts –
Te Ihi Te Wehi – Spellbound

for the city and community and
has preparing to announce 2007
